Dan McManamon
03/12/2006

Dan McManamon, a senior, anything but fresh from winning the Millrose Mile, won while he was “not feeling too well.”

Farrell’s Dan Lewis led a tight pack through the 440 in 1:04.8, trailed closely by Mohammad Ige and Robert Sorrell. Sorrell took over around the 660 and led through the half in 2:11.9. McManamon was waiting in fourth, pulling up to second by the three-quarter mile mark, which Sorrell passed in 3:16.8.

Early in the last quarter, McManamon surged to the lead. Toronto’s Mark Davidson drew close behind but fell off when McManamon uncorked a blistering 28.1 in the last 220 to land a 4:16.55. Davidson finished second in 4:17.36, trailed by Sorrel in 4:18.17. Ige, Anthony LaMastro, and Matthew Shaffer finished together behind. One surprise was Chris Williams, who won the second heat and cracked into the top group, placing fourth overall in 4:18.23.

McManamon’s splits were 31.4, 33.4, 33.2, 33.9, 32.3, 32.5, 31.4, and 28.1 to win the National Indoor High School Championships.

We salute Dan as the BreakThru Athlete of the Week.
