Nicole Blood
11/26/2005

Nicole Blood won the Footlocker Northeast Regional at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx for the third straight year with a time of 17 minutes, 41.8 seconds over the 3.1 miles. The race featured a duel between Blood and Aislinn Ryan, previously unbeaten this year. Blood took a lead in the back hills and held it to the finish line.

Blood is only the second girl in the 27 years of the race to qualify for the national race in all four years of eligibility. The first was Montana's Zoe Nelson, who did it from 2001-04.

The Footlocker Northeast Regional features the best high school runners from New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington, D.C.

We salute Nicole as BreakThru Athlete of the Week.
