Steve Murdock said he prefers the mud. He had plenty of it to slosh through on Saturday on the Nike Team Nationals course at Portland Meadows.

Murdock, who was part of a national championship team when he ran at Saratoga Springs last year, led Clifton Park XC Club to a sixth-place finish and was the overall winner.

Murdock's surge broke apart a lead pack before the midway point of the 5,000-meter course and he won by 11 seconds in 16 minutes, 26.9 seconds.

We salute Steve, as the BreakThru Athlete of the Week once again for his efforts.
